The paper presents a method for calculating the turbulent boundary layer on 2D foils taking into account the flow separation zone. The method is implemented using double optimization. First, the thickness displacement increasing the foil thickness is calculated using Trukkenbordt method. The flow separation zone is modelled using Chaplygin strip theory. Then its shape is optimized to obtain a constant pressure distribution behind the separation points. Thus, after a number of iterations the characteristics of boundary layer and flow separation zone are refined. Case studies for different foils and circular cylinder are given. The results are compared with the experimental data.
