Summary

 
Object and purpose of research.Development of a new shallow-draught icebreaker to support uninterrupted operation of major and minor ports in the Sea of Azov and in the Caspian
Subject matter and methodsIntegrated design and optimization method for hull lines of the icebreaker, development of a new combined steering & propulsion system based on a wide range of experimental studies
Main results.Based on the climate analysis of the main operation areas, as well as on the operation experience for the existing shallow-draught icebreakers, the study has formulated the technical requirements to the design of the new icebreaker, for further detailed design activities and model tests.
Conclusion.The solutions adopted in the design were verified by the model tests, proved their efficiency and show that the new shallow-draught icebreaker is better than her existing counterparts.
