Summary

 
The paper provides results of design and experimental verification for blade system of thruster fitted with RIM drive. Propeller is designed through direct optimization of blade pitch. Blade camber equals to zero to ensure symmetry of propulsor characteristics when being operated starboard and portside. Strength parameters of designed blade system are analyzed, flow in pod is computed and cavitation characteristics are assessed. A model of podded thruster was manufactured to assess accuracy of the design. This model was tested in the deep-water towing tank of the Krylov State Research Centre.
