Summary

 
The method for shape optimization of propeller duct in the propulsion system is described. The flow around the duct is calculated using the BEM technique. The propeller is represented by a disc of hydrodynamic singularities – sinks located in place of the propeller within the duct. The loading coefficients are determined based on the theory of actuator disc in the duct. The boundary layer and flow separation points are calculated using the method of E. Trukkenbordt. The optimization gives a duct shape with no flow separations and uniform pressure distribution providing the maximum thrust.
