Summary

 
The paper describes the results of analysis based on in-service vibration monitoring data obtained during a trial Arctic voyage of a large-size Arc-7 Arctic gas carrier. The power of propulsion units, propeller RPM, steering angles of pods and ship speed were recorded continuously and concurrently with hull vibration parameters for judging the effect of ice and ship operating conditions. Hull vibrations versus ship operation parameters are investigated at independent sailing ahead and astern in continuous ice field with broad variation of ice thickness from 0.2 to 1.5 m, as well as at sailing in ice channel behind icebreaker and large ice ridges. Longterm distribution of vibration levels in attended ship spaces are analysed and compared against existing standards. Vibration dose exposure estimates are done for one crew member. Advantages of this method are shown as compared with the traditional approaches to regulation of vibrations.
