Summary |
The paper discusses an advanced biological protection system for storage tanks of nuclear fuel and radioactive waste. It provides the fundamentals of the sizing procedure for a segment of biological protection shield and its elements, and also compares the results obtained through calculation as per this procedure versus those assigned from experience. The procedure suggested in this paper allows determination of minimum size for a biological protection shield segment and for its elements, so as to ensure guaranteed access to at least one cell containing radiation sources when the segment is removed from the radioactive object, and also ensures that this element stands firmly on its supports. |
