Object and purpose of researchThis paper analyses what effect non-uniformity of the flow incoming to the propeller operating behind hull has upon interaction coefficient iQ. The purpose of this study is to calculate interaction coefficient iQ.
Subject matter and methodsThe problem is solved in linear formulation, using a certain set of typical nominal wake fields.
Main resultsThe formulas were obtained for radial re-distribution of inductive angles of the flow around propeller blades, as well as for increment ΔiQ depending on function f and propeller load. The factors influencing iQ were identified. The paper also provides examples of calculations.
ConclusionThese materials can be useful to analyse what effect the radial non-uniformity in the longitudinal inflow component has upon propulsion performance of ships..
