Summary |
Object and purpose of research. Development of numerical techniques for estimation of ice loads, in particular on ice-resistance structures.
Subject matter and methods. Fundamental principles of similarity theory for ice fracture mechanics and related problems are considered. A new principle of scaling is suggested, which is based on direct computer simulation making use of isomorphic mapping of material stress surface. This technique has been verified in application to ice basin tests. Main results. A numerical problem on penetration of a drilling platform model in ice field was solved using the suggested method. The modeling results were compared with experimental data and good qualitative and quantitative agreement was obtained. Conclusion. The described methodology of ice fracture modeling enables researchers to estimate ice loads on structures of various types. Application of these techniques opens new opportunities and enhances ice basin test capabilities. |
