Some technical objects, e.g. ship degaussing coils made up by serially connected turns may suffer local deterioration of their isolation resistance due to operational wear. Presently, finding the locations of these defects is a tedious and time-consuming task virtually reduced to physical inspection, i.e. visual examination, of coiling cables (frequently installed in places not readily accessible), when cable stretches are one by one disconnected and subjected to resistance measurements in the connection boxes of dead coiling opened in advance. Therefore, it becomes a relevant task to develop a method for remote (i.e. from switchboard) detection of poor isolation places in degaussing coils without blacking them out (because they play an important part in protection of the whole ship) and without prejudice to the safety of their operation. This method must also rely on the minimum possible number of measurements and the minimum possible scope of instrumentation, and the measurement process itself must be the fastest possible.
