Summary

Object and purpose of research. This paper discusses survivability of a naval ship damaged in battle. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of structural protection upon survivability of naval ships.
Subject matter and methods. This study was a statistical computer-based simulation of a 8000 t ship hit by an ordnance with 150 kg warhead.
Main results. The study yielded numerical criteria for ship survivability depending on given structural protection design.
Conclusion. The results of this study indicate that the final decision about a naval ship concept must include an integrated assessment of her combat robustness, with a compulsory assessment of her survivability after battle damage.
