Summary |
Object and purpose of research. Search for advanced engineering solutions to reduce underwater radiated noise of submarines and surface ships based on fully electric propulsion concept.
Subject matter and methods. Review of known and published data regarding foreign experience with application of fully electric propulsion systems in development of low noise submarines and surface ships; improvement of “electric” technol- ogies for further reduction of equipment vibration levels as well as noise levels of newly built and designed foreign submarines and surface ships; development of advanced electric power systems for all-electric submarines and surface ships. Main results. The low-noise electric propulsion concept is addressed in the context of issues and tasks related to development of all-electric submarines and surface ships with improved combat performance, including acoustic signatures. It is found that the preferred engineering and technology options should be solutions and equipment ensuring the lowest sources of vibration and noise. This target should be formulated at the very beginning of the design process for all components of the future system. Conclusion. It is shown that the electric propulsion is a promising solution in development of low-noise submarines and surface ships in Russia. Assimilation and further development of the latest “electric” technologies should qualitatively improve the performance (including acoustic signatures) of Russian submarines and surface ships. |
