Summary |
Object and purpose of research. The purpose is to find the effect of hull fullness on hydrodynamic resistance for river ships and sea-river vessels of Volgo-Don max type with different block coefficients.
Subject matter and methods. Analysis of statistics from a great number of towing tests with large-scale models of sea/river vessels of various hull fullness for operation in river and sea conditions. Main results. Relationships of towing power versus block coefficient are introduced for a wide range of river/sea ship speeds. From the hydrodynamic standpoint the most advisable block coefficients are found in the range of 0.87-0.89. The existing vessels of very extremely large block coefficients should not be operated at speeds higher than 10 knots. Conclusion. The study results enable designers to choose the optimum block coefficient for river and sea/river vessels early in the design process. |
