Summary |
Object and purpose of research. Study on properties of composite coatings under long-term service exposure. The paper presents a methodological approach to assessment of lifetime properties of composite thermal protection materials and their adhesive metal bonding.
Subject matter and methods. Full-scale and accelerated tests of thermal protection materials under long-term (10 year) exposure at test stations with widely different climatic conditions. Main results. It is found that thermal protection materials based on 3D woven silica and quartz fabrics with epoxide and epoxide-polyurethane binders retain their physical and mechanical properties within the required limits for 20 years. Adhesive bonding of composite thermal protection coating applied to structures remain intact and provide the required bonding strength for at least 10 years. Conclusion. The method for prediction of bonded structure lifetime properties has been verified. This method is a significant time and cost saver for development of thermal protection coatings adapted to specific structure geometries and service conditions. |
