The paper contains developed structural design of waterjet propulsion unit located in the aft part of pod. This design provides fixed coupling of nozzle and pylon towards the face chuck of pivotal stock and makes it possible to disassemble the nozzle without removing the whole waterjet unit from the vessel.
The paper shows the results of preliminary study of waterjet unit basic elements. These results were used to design and manufacture the model of the main separate block consisting of the nozzle with impeller and straightener. The manufactured model was tested in vacuum tank at «open water» test rig. Test results are given as performance curves at atmospheric conditions and cavitation numbers σn = 1,3; 1,7; 2,1. Model test results were used for calculation of basic dimensions and parameters of a full-scale waterjet propulsion unit that are provided in tabular form along with the same parameters of propulsion unit of the same power  equipped with a tractor-type propeller.
