The paper investigates the numerical simulation results for deep plastic straining and failure of a double bottom due to the collision with a reef. The studies were performed on FEM models constructed in ANSYS/LS-DYNA environment. It covers several scenarios for the collision of a moving rigid cone (simulation of a reef) with fixed framing. The scenarios differed by the place of collision. The simulation provided the patterns for straining and failure of framing elements. The paper compares generalized parameters (absorbed energy and total response force) changing during the collision.
