Summary

Object and purpose of research. This paper describes a new Krylov State Research Centre test facility, Landscape Wind Tunnel, its main elements and design requirements
Subject matter and methodsThe paper analyses advantages and disadvantages of existing special wind tunnels, as well as the needs of main wind tunnel test customers.
Main results. This study justifies main requirements to modern special wind tunnels, including the necessity of boundary layer simulation, handling of large models with lots of details, as well as climate control of wind parameters in the test section.
Conclusion. The results confirm that Krylov State Research Centre Landscape Wind Tunnel, in terms of its test section size and available test equipment and instrumentation, can offer world-class services in at least three spheres: shipbuilding, bridge construction and urban development.
