This paper discusses longitudinal stability of WIG vessel. The purpose of the study is to develop an assessment procedure for longitudinal stability of WIG vessel at early design stages, with the scope of required aerodynamic inputs as narrow as possible. The definition of static longitudinal stability of WIG vessel suggested in this paper is based on two parameters: offset and angle of attack. Mathematical analysis of WIG vessel aerodynamics performed by the authors made it possible to determine the criteria of longitudinal WIG vessel stability in terms of above-mentioned parameters. The procedure suggested by the authors is demonstrated by the case study of a tandem WIG vessel. This procedure enables more efficient aerodynamic design of WIG vessel at the stage of selecting its general architecture, when it is necessary to estimate many possible variants of aerodynamic schemes and other general design solutions, by simultaneously handling such tasks as, e.g., obtaining high drag-lift ratio and assessing longitudinal stability.
