Summary |
This paper discusses automation and optimization of mine field localization (i.e. determination of mine field shape and boundaries) by means of naval mine-fighting systems, which is an important component of mine-fighting in general. Analysing the types of existing naval mines and parameters of current mine detection tools, this paper suggests mine search algorithms that offer recommendations on optimal positioning and path for detection of other mines in the area, as well as perform shape analysis of mine field. Mine field localization algorithms are suggested for different variants of mine laying both in general form and for particular cases: gyration around a solitary mine, localization of a mine strip, localization of a mine field and determination of boundaries for a mine field with arbitrary mine locations. The paper estimates how these new algorithms will improve the efficiency of mine searching control systems. If implemented, these algorithms will speed up mine-fighting operations and offer more efficient detection and correct classification of different mines and mined areas. |
