Summary

Pushed convoys equipped with automatic hitch mechanisms have been taking their niche in provision of transportation, especially mineral building cargoes, for more than 50 years. Their economical advantages on short lines are indisputable. However, age of automatic hitch mechanisms operating in vessels of RRR class notation causes anxiety that is related to the navigation safety, especially to safe operation of hitch mechanism structural elements where considerable wear has been accumulated.
For the last years interest to development of sea pushed convoys has increased considerably. For Russia this direction is new and intellectual, especially for providing a possibility of forming convoys for transportations from river to sea and vice-versa, i.e. convoys of combined (river-sea-going) navigation. In this case and issue of unification and interconnection of layouts for lashing together arises.
Absence of a methodology for evaluating forces in lashing elements of pushed convoys under various service factors is a constraint in this problem solution.
The paper represents introduction into the whole problem of developing pushed convoys including sea ones with selection of possible variants of its solution.
