Summary

The paper examines the problem of considering the limitations for various kinds of motions in assessing the possibilities of ship positioning in wind and waves. The studies performed a lowed recommending a generalized relationship between limit sea state and ship length to develop the positioning mode which would ensure a low-degree comfort for the crew (from the viewpoint of habitability). It also suggests a new indicator which describes the possibility of ship positioning, as well as qualitative & quantitative scale for such assessment.
