Summary |
Object and purpose of research. Investigations of how location of a hole on hull plating of a moving platform influences the levels of its vibration.
Subject matter and methods. Measurements of vibration levels in multiple points on a plate without a hole in flow conditions and measurement of vibration levels on three plates with a hole at different locations in flow conditions. Experimental evaluation of how location of the hole on plate influences vibration characteristics (measured vibration levels and spectrum shape) of plates in flow conditions. Main results. The most intensive peaks in vibration spectra of plate in flow are found when the hole is at its geometric center and the following conditions are observed: Strouhal frequency fSh coincides with plate’s natural flexural frequency fqn; the hole is within the antinode zone of flexural vibrations at fqn = fSh, while downstream of the hole there is another antinode of similar shape. Conclusion. It is found that plate vibration and noise levels can be mitigated by proper location of holes in plating of moving platforms. |
