Summary

 
Object and purpose of research. This paper investigates passenger cabins of river-going cruise ships to determine the effects of fleet aging and upgrade upon passenger capacity of river-going fleet.
Subject matter and methods.This study relied on the databases Marine Engineering Bureau and various cruise companies, as well as on register books of classification societies, initial drawings of basic river-going cruise ships and their upgraded versions. The research was performed as per common methods of ship theory, ship design and statistics.
Main results. The study yielded current estimates and mid-term (until 2030) forecast for passenger capacity of Russian river-going cruise fleet.
Conclusion. The study identified river-going cruise ships currently in service, as well as investigated their main characteristics and design solutions behind their upgrades and retrofits. This work shows that by 2030 total passenger capacity of river-going fleet will decrease to 11,631 persons, i.e. by 52.72 %, and that not taking into account possible decline in passenger capacity due to future upgrade projects.
