Power generation systems of modern weapons and military equipment have to meet enhanced requirements like high reliability and efficiency, easy maintenance and low signatures. In this connection fuel-cell powerplants present an increasingly attractive option. These systems are mainly dependent on two key technologies, viz. electrochemical generator (fuel cell) and hydrogen generation & storage systems. Krylov State Research Centre suggests an integrated cross-industry approach to development and introduction of the fuel-cell powerplant based on a self-contained functional module to cover a range of applications including ships, aircraft, rail and road vehicles, on-site fixed power generation facilities, power supply to oil & gas fields, and utilities. Practical implementation of this cross-industry approach will significantly reduce the time and cost required for introduction of safe and environmentfriendly hydrogen economy solutions for military and civil applications due to consolidation of efforts and finances between different ministries, departments, industrial and R&D enterprises
