The paper clarifies the specifics of generation and progress of damage, as well as failures of the joints made of polymeric composite materials, and determines their limit bearing capacity under static load. Viscous parameters of failure and the joint are determined using specially developed numerical models of standard tests based on damage accumulation theory. The study covered the entire process of damage generation and development, till the complete failure of joints. Analytical results were compared against the test data, and their good convergence has been shown. The paper also studied how the geometry of the joint affected its bearing capacity and outlined the ways to increase it.
