The paper presents a method for calculation of ship ice resistance under transient motion in a continuous ice field. The suggested method is an extension of an earlier developed approach to ice resistance evaluation on the assumption of a constant ship speed. It is demonstrated that for including the transient motion it is required to use integro-differential equations for describing the ship motion at ice breaking as well as to develop a special-purpose algorithm for numerical determination of forces produced on the ship hull when the hull is turning an ice floe.
