Summary

 
Object and purpose of research.Electromagnetic protection of ship radioelectronics. For further assessment, the shape of a ship wheelhouse model was selected as cubical, with round opening (viewport).
Subject matter and methodsThe paper investigates two approaches to this issue: analytical and numerical. The analytical approach is based on the short-wave approximation within the framework of the physical diffraction theory. The numerical assessment of electromagnetic parameters inside the resonator was performed in Computer Simulation Technology CST Studio Suite 2013 software package. The obtained calculation algorithms were validated by experimental studies.
Main results.
This paper numerically assesses the electromagnetic parameters inside the wheelhouse affected by an external electromagnetic pulse (EMP), as well as provides efficiency estimates for various ways of EMP effect mitigation. The analytical, numerical and experimental estimates of the electromagnetic environment inside the wheelhouse (cabin) obtained in this work proved to agree regarding both the shape of the pulse penetrating via the opening and how its amplitude changes as the pulse penetrates farther into the shell. As compared to the analytical methods, the numerical calculation results obtained in CST software package were closer to the test data. Conclusion.The results of this work could further be used to assess the electromagnetic protection level of ship radioelectronics by means of standard software.
