Summary

 
Marine diesels are one of the most dangerous sources of sea pollution. Intense development of industrial and carrier fleet all over the world brings their environmental impact to a truly global scale. In view of this, development of practicable and cost-efficient purification systems for exhaust gases of marine diesels is a relevant and urgent task. This paper discusses application prospects of a system that would remove SOX and NOX from exhaust gases by means of catalytic neutralization. The materials for such a system could be corrosion-resistant porous permeable SHS catalysts based on alloyed steel scale and ilmenite ore. Purification quality of exhaust gases heavily depends on physical parameters, mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the materials used in purification system, which has been demonstrated on two examples of material compositions. The main idea of this study is to find the area of local extrema in the distribution field of target parameters in order to obtain the optimal ratio between the main constituent materials under investigation so that their combination would be highly resistant to corrosion and efficiently remove both SOX and NOX. The results of this study could be used in practical design of exhaust gas purification systems for marine diesels.
