Summary |
The paper gives a systematic analysis of foreign experience in identification of promising trends in development of future power plants for large-size surface warships. Projects of foreign warships of various classes are considered, design features as well as merits and drawbacks of their powerplants are analysed. Special attention is paid to layout solutions for the new-generation IPS types (IPS — Integrated Power System) implementing two modern concepts: full electric propulsion and full electric ship. Configuration solutions are described and engineering analysis of the main powerplant components and technologies is done including the issues related to development and implementation of high-temperature superconductors, solid semi-conductors and permanent magnets with high flux density. |
